Wildhorse Golf Club has gone through several name changes over the year, however, one thing at the course has never changed: history. Wildhorse opened in 1959 and was one of the first golf courses built in southern Nevada. The rich history at Wildhorse Golf Club began in the 1960s and 1970s, with the course at one time, being owned by Howard Hughes, who purchased it from its original developer, Hank Greenspun in 1968. The course was also a former PGA Tour stop in the ‘60s and ‘70s, hosting the “Sahara Invitational”. Wildhorse was redesigned and updated in 2004 and is currently a municipally owned course by the City of Henderson.

Wildhorse Golf Club has received numerous awards since its redesign in 2004, including “Best Places to Play” by Golf Digest in 2006 and 2007. The golf course also boasts two holes selected by the Las Vegas Review-Journal for its “Vegas Fantasy 18” as both the 4th and 9th hole received this honor. The 9th hole is considered Wildhorse’s toughest, a par-4 measuring 398 yards. The hole has water in play on every shot, with length and placement being essential. If your tee shot is too short, it leaves you with a long iron approach shot to a green that has a second lake guarding the front. The right side of the fairway is also closely guarded by water. Hit your approach shot short, golfers will deal with the lake in front, hit it too long, and water comes into play behind the green.

The 4th hole is a long 205 yard par-3 with your tee shot requiring a complete carry over water. Focus on a good swing and a good shot, and you’ll be fine, but no chance for bailout gives all the challenge golfers will need.

Wildhorse features a very nice clubhouse with a fully stocked pro shop with all of the biggest names in golf available. The pro shop is also available for regripping, reshafting, and custom fitting your clubs, many of these services done while you wait. Also Wildhorse is a participant in the PGA Trade-In Program. This program allows you to trade in your old clubs for merchandise credit at the course.

A very large natural turf practice range, putting green, chipping and pitching area, along with a sand bunker are also available. The practice area is great for working on every shot that you may see on the course. The Wildhorse Golf Academy is available also with private lessons, group lessons, or private schools to improve your game. In addition, the First Tee program is available for junior golfers between the ages of 6 and 18. This program allows its members to participate in clinics, educational seminars, tournaments, and special events throughout the year with a strong life skills component that includes community service and mentoring opportunities being a strong part of the curriculum.

Wildhorse Golf Club also has a grand ballroom that can accommodate up to 218 guests for meetings and events, with a private balcony that overlooks the golf course. These facilities can be used for meetings, banquets, weddings or other special events. The professional staff can also help with your corporate outing, fundraiser or charity event, golf tournament, or family gathering, to ensure your occasion is a memorable one.

With all of the amenities you will need, at a fair price, Wildhorse Golf Club is one of the best values you will find in the Las Vegas area. A great deal of hard work has gone into reshaping Wildhorse into a top quality golf course with its redesign and amenities. Make sure you stop by this jewel, close to the Strip, on your next visit.
