Tournament Players Clubs (TPC) are owned and operated by the PGA Tour and boast being, arguably, the finest clubs in America in terms of course conditioning, amenities, and customer service. TPC Las Vegas continues that tradition of offering the best.

TPC Las Vegas opened in 1996 and was built in one of the nation’s largest and finest master-planned communities, Summerlin. The community is also home to TPC Summerlin, a private membership club. TPC Las Vegas has been described as “desert elegance”. The course, stretching over 7,000 yards, offers a stern test of golfing skill with stunning vistas. The natural elements at TPC Las Vegas surround you. Dramatic scenery is all around you, with a view of nearby Red Rock Canyon. Much of the natural vegetation was preserved when constructing the course with careful consideration to the natural drainage of the area. TPC Las Vegas is currently one of 138 golf courses to earn the distinction as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System.

Raymond Floyd and Bobby Weed are the co-designers for the course. Careful planning was put into the design, working toward a more rugged, natural look incorporating the natural wash areas and the natural desert plants so that the course didn’t look “created.” Raymond Floyd has a history as a top player on both the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour, winning 22 times on the PGA Tour and another 14 times on the Champions Tour. He also has designed 18 courses and has collaborated on several others and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1989. Bobby Weed started as an apprentice under the legendary course designer Pete Dye and was hired by the PGA Tour in 1983 and soon became their in-house architect in 1987. From that post, Weed was responsible for the design of many of today's best known TPC venues, which continue as host sites for prominent TOUR events, including TPC Las Vegas which has hosted the Champion’s Tour Las Vegas Classic. Together, both Floyd and Weed have created one of the best golfing experiences you will find in the Las Vegas area.

TPC Las Vegas is a stern test of shot making as well as strategy and course management. There are generous landing areas on the course off the tee, however, throwing in prevailing winds and several elevation changes make for a golf course with some serious teeth to it. The course offers a lot of risk, with reward also. The golf course challenges you almost from the start with the par-3 196 yard 2nd hole, called “Canyon.” The hole plays downwind to a large desert island green. Too long or too short spell trouble on this hole. This if followed by the par-4 3rd hole, the number one handicap hole on the course. A tight tee shot with a narrow approach awaits you with a ravine guarding the left and mounds to the right.

The 12th hole is another challenging 145 yard par-3, with your tee shot to an elevated green with a carry over a canyon. The difficult 12th is followed by a hole referred to as “Death Valley”, the par-4 423 yard 13th hole. The hole features a blind tee shot over an arroyo to a fairway sloped to the right. However, your dealings with the arroyo aren’t finished, as it continues to run down the entire right side of the fairway. TPC Las Vegas has several strong holes, but no signature hole, as Floyd adds “There are probably six very strong holes and 18 good holes that fit together pretty well.”

TPC Las Vegas is filled with amenities to only add to your golf experience. Forecaddies are available to assist you from the moment you drive up to the time you leave the facility. The will assist you with familiarizing you with the pro shop, practice range, and locker rooms. They are good with strategies and club selection as well as yardages. Each forecaddie is equipped with a range finder to give you exact yardages on each shot, with ball marks and divots all being maintained.

The golf shop is well equipped with all of the name brands golfers are familiar with and all of the latest equipment, staying on the cutting edge of the industry. Also, the Tour Academy is a top-of-the-line instructional school and offers private lessons. It offers the largest curriculum of specialized golf training programs available in the area.

The TPC Grille offers breakfast and lunch, as well as after-hours drinks until 5:30pm each day, as well as a “happy hour” from 5pm to 7pm on Fridays. The Grille features a panoramic view of the 18th fairway as well as nearby Red Rock Canyon. The restaurant offers both indoor seating as well as a very large outdoor patio to enjoy your day.

For a first-class golf experience, with terrific service and a “country club-for-a-day” feel, TPC Las Vegas is a necessary stop on your next visit.
