Minutes from the Strip:

Many golfers who come to Sin City make the scenic trip to St. George, Utah. St. George is quickly becoming the “golf capital of Utah”. Several golf courses have popped up around the landscape in recent years in this fast growing city of well over 100,000 people.

The designer of the Ledges Golf Club is the late Matt Dye. Golfers may easily recognize the last name as Matt was a third generation member of the legendary golf design family. Dye became quickly known for his attention to detail on his greens that he constructed and designed, giving them lots of undulation and felt that greens needed to be designed with real character. He continued his world-class work at the Ledges Golf Club, creating a 7,200 yard masterpiece within the rugged high desert. He was able to match the rocky landscape of Southern Utah with top-notch and innovative design.

The 3rd hole at the Ledges is a par-5 measuring 571 yards and gives golfers their first true test. The landing area for your tee shot is generous, giving you an opportunity to keep away from the 3 large bunkers guarding the right side of the fairway. However, going for the green in two shots is an impossibility for most golfers, as the hole runs uphill the entire way. The green is protected by a deep low fifty yards in front of it.

The 9th hole is a par-4 and offers golfers their first encounter with water coming into play on the course. A lake protects the entire left side of the landing area, as well as the left side of the green. Accuracy is a must on this hole as anything left means major trouble. A small bunker guards the right side of this deep and narrow green.

Decisions, decisions, decisions dominate the par-5 16th hole. The 16th measures 600 yards and features an elevated tee box, hitting off the cliff, down to a split fairway with bunkers strategically placed. The fairways undulate and give you a chance to reach the green in two, however, the safer play is to place your shots carefully and give yourself your best chance at par. Sixteen is the second most difficult hole on the course, and for good reason.

The 18th is a nice finishing hole that allows golfers to finish with a smile on their face. Water again comes into play with a lake guarding the entire left side. Sand bunkers guard the right side short of the green, although they don’t come into play except for errant shots. Approach shots to the front of the green make for birdie or par as a good possibility. This par-4 is a beautiful finish to a scenic and challenging round at the Ledges.

The Clubhouse at the Ledges Golf Club is a great setting to relax before and after your round, and features Southwest Mission-style architecture. The Fish Rock Grille features a beautiful décor, excellent food, and stunning views of Snow Canyon and the golf course. The Clubhouse also is a terrific venue for corporate events, weddings, receptions, and special events.

In 2007, the Nicklaus Academy of Golf was opened at the Ledges and is a well known center for teaching and refining golfers’ games. The Academy is perfect for golfers of every skill level and offers a great atmosphere to learn, featuring the latest in swing analysis software to help improve all parts of your game. Half-Day Golf Schools, as well as One, Two, and Three-Day Golf Schools are available for group or private instruction, with a ratio of one instructor for every two guests. Your game will get personalized attention and help you to improved play in the future.

All of these amenities, as well as a gorgeous and scenic golf course, make for the Ledges Golf Club to be one of the highlights of a short trip to St. George.
