Boulder City is known as a clean, green oasis in the desert. Established in 1931 in the midst of the Great Depression, Boulder City was built as a “model” city to which the American people could look for hope of a brighter future. The city, with approximately 15,000 residents, was originally built to house the workers that were building Hoover Dam. It continues to have a quaint, small-town atmosphere, along with a historic charm only a short 20 minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip.
Boulder Creek Golf Club has been one of southern Nevada’s premier golf courses since its opening in 2003. It plays host to numerous high level tournaments and events throughout the golf season. Mark Rathert designed Boulder Creek with the intention of offering terrific variety with a three-course concept, and he has succeeded. Oasis-themed holes offer numerous palm trees, lakes, waterfalls, and beach bunkers. Arroyos weave in and out throughout the course. Desert holes are bordered by the area’s unique playable sand.
Boulder Creek offers 27 holes of scenic, championship-caliber golf. There are three sets of 9 holes: Desert Hawk, Coyote Run, and Eldorado Valley.
Desert Hawk is 9 holes that follow the natural rolling terrain of the area and has both an oasis and desert theme. The first true test on the Desert Hawk Course is the par-5 2nd hole measuring 582 yards. Decisions must be made as there is a split fairway. One way is the safe route, but pulls the greenside bunkers into play, while the angle from the left fairway takes away much of the threat of the bunkers near the undulating green.
The 9th hole is a challenging finishing hole, measuring 480 yards. Water
comes into play as a large lake guards the right side of the fairway. Keeping
the tee shot straight is the key. The approach shot doglegs to the right
slightly and most 2nd shots are long into a small green with a large bunker
to the right.
The Coyote Run Course offers subtle elevation changes and wide lush fairways.
Arroyos meander through the course and come into play at times. The first
real test on this group of 9 holes is on the par-4 2nd hole. It measures
443 yards and includes a sand bunker in the middle of the fairway to attempt
to avoid. Bunkers guard the landing area on each side of the fairway and
again come into play to the left and right of the green.
The par-4 9th hole measures out to 469 yards and challenges your decision making. The fairway is split in two by a long creek. Hit your tee shot to the left, and golfers have a short second shot into the green with the left greenside bunker not coming hugely into play. Hit your tee shot to the right side of the creek into the fairway and it’s a safer shot, but also leaves a long second shot into the small green.
The Eldorado Valley Course is diversified to challenge golfers of all skill
levels. Sand bunkers are strategically placed and beautiful views of the
surrounding mountains and area are at every turn.
The finishing hole on the Eldorado Valley Course is the par-5 uphill 9th
measuring 577 yards. Playing uphill makes the hole a tough finisher. Bunkers
along the left side need to be avoided to score well, as well as the creek
running along the front of the green as you hit your approach. A fun, but
stiff challenge to end the 9 holes.
Boulder Creek’s clubhouse features a fully stocked pro shop, banquet
facilities, a full bar and coffee shop, men’s and women’s locker
rooms, as well as the Creekside Restaurant. The banquet facilities are available
to host tournaments, corporate outings, banquets, weddings, and special events.
Lessons with one of 3 PGA instructors on site are also available as well
as video swing analysis, golf schools, and custom club fitting at Boulder
Creek’s large practice facility.
The short drive to Boulder City is worth the trip. Just 25 minutes away from Las Vegas in this charming town of 15,000 on the way to Hoover Dam or Arizona, Boulder Creek offers friendly staff, terrific amenities, and a terrific variety of courses to highlight your golf outing.
